THE TIME MACHINIST
May 21st – 24th, 2026 | The GRAND Theatre, Calgary | All-Ages
Following its acclaimed debut in Calgary in 2023, The Time Machinist returned in a bold new remount by Le Cirque de la Nuit at The GRAND Theatre in May 2026. Named one of the Top 10 Theatre Productions of 2023 by Louis B. Hobson (Calgary Herald), this all-ages circus-theatre spectacle blends extraordinary circus artistry, physical comedy and cinematic storytelling into a thrilling journey through the ages.
Audiences are invited into the eccentric world of Owen Mittagen Vottenberg III, a self-proclaimed genius who showcases his collection of human specimens gathered on daring time-travel expeditions. As he pushes his invention beyond its limits, wonder and chaos collide. Featuring an extraordinary ensemble of multidisciplinary performers, the production showcases aerial silks, trapeze, lyra, cyr wheel, acrobatics, hand balancing, unicycle, juggling, laser manipulation, dance and live vocals, all woven seamlessly into the narrative.
Enhanced by striking visual effects, award-winning lighting design and an immersive soundscape, The Time Machinist unfolds like a live cinematic adventure, delivering breathtaking feats, unexpected humour and moments of wonder for audiences of all ages.
In 2026, Le Cirque de la Nuit received funding through the Canada Council for the Arts’ Touring & Circulation program to support the continued development and touring of The Time Machinist. This investment marks an exciting next chapter for the production, creating opportunities to bring this original Canadian circus-theatre work to new audiences beyond Calgary.
